The AGRIFOOD-ENV-DSS project, aimed at promoting sustainability in the agri-food industry, is successfully progressing in its second phase, achieving significant milestones in its development.
In this stage, key innovations have been implemented to enhance efficiency and transparency in production processes. One of the most notable advancements is the integration of a chatbot, developed with SurveyMonkey, which facilitates information reporting for field operators, particularly viticulturists. This chatbot collects crucial data such as water and diesel consumption, as well as nitrogen inputs from fertilizer treatments in the field, thereby improving real-time decision-making.
Additionally, progress has been made in managing georeferenced data, with information provided by various viticulture companies being uploaded to the AGRIFOOD viewer. This data includes details about plots, such as planting year, irrigation type, plantation type, and crop variety. Moreover, layers of the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and Normalized Difference Moisture Index (NDMI) have been integrated, offering a more comprehensive and detailed perspective for decision-making.
Despite challenges arising from the unavailability of services from the Copernicus Program, the project has overcome this issue thanks to collaboration with the GEOFOREST research group at the University of Zaragoza, which has provided the necessary layers for this phase.
Another significant achievement is the calculation of scope 3 environmental footprint, carried out using factors provided by the CREDENAT environmental footprint research group at the University of Zaragoza. This enables a thorough assessment of environmental impacts across the entire value chain.
Furthermore, traceability has been introduced in waste management, identifying each type of waste by its LER Code and recording its movement to authorized handlers, thereby strengthening the project’s environmental management.
Finally, efforts are underway to integrate the obtained results with a Business Intelligence tool (Power BI), which will allow for deeper analysis and improved data visualization for strategic decision-making.
In summary, the AGRIFOOD-ENV-DSS project continues to advance in its mission to promote sustainability in the agri-food industry, standing out for its innovative and collaborative approach to optimizing processes and reducing ecological footprint.
