Project: Energy efficiency 4.0

Energy efficiency 4.0 in the agri-food sector

PARTICIPATING ENTITIES.
Aragonese Food Cluster, Arento Industrias Cárnicas, Vea Global and the Aula Dei Science and Technology Park Foundation.

DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVES.
Correct energy management in the food industry in general, and in the meat industry in particular, has a great impact on the income statement. In fact, the auxiliary industrial facilities or “facilities” -which are the systems attached to the main production process, without which production cannot be carried out (compressed air, climate, process water, electrical distribution installation, lighting, HVAC …)- account for more than 90% of energy consumption in the meat processing sector.
Faced with this problem, this project was proposed with the aim of evaluating the feasibility of implementing energy efficiency measures, in the meat transformation subsector, with an approach based on digitalization or industry 4.0.

RESULTS OBTAINED.
A comprehensive energy study of the company Arento Industrias Cárnicas was carried out, from which the corresponding existing inefficiencies were diagnosed and a series of solutions aimed at increasing energy yields were established.
After the analysis of all the data -primary and secondary- 22 energy saving opportunities could be established, whose implementation has been prioritized based on investment returns. Nine of them do not require any type of investment and represent a saving of 16% of the total energy cost of the company, while the implementation of all of them reaches up to 40% energy savings.
